Talksport?

Shocked that no proper channels are interested in him.

He was on Radio 4 this morning, I think? Must be doing the rounds.

You'll make me listen to Talkshite... but thanks for the heads-up. I'm sadly old enough to number Clyde among early Hammers heroes.

I'm sadly old enough to number Clyde among early Hammers heroes also but I don't listen to talk sport or buy the sun newspaper....

I remember him too, though only from '73-ish onwards. I thought he was great! A real cult hero for me.

Great player for us in an era that didn't see too many black players

I started going at 3... he was one of the players that always stuck out for me (for obvious reasons)... him and Mooro

Re: Clyde Best - Book signing on Saturday
Hitting that cross bar from the 40 yards or was it the half way line or was it opposition half or even goal end?

more likely from 30 years but as a small kid being behind the goal seeing & feeling the cross bar shake he appeared far away .
afterwards...
off home over park to try it .

I remember that shot against the crossbar, still vibrating at the last game at Upton Park, I think

Clyde Best was a bit before my era, someone give me a comparison to how good he was, I'm taking it he's better than a lot of the dross we've had up front apart from the usual suspects like Mcavennie, cottee, Cross

Scored a diving header about a foot off the ground against Crystal Palace in 1969 from a long, sliced right foot Lampard pass .
He can't have been at West Ham very long when he scored that goal.

If I was asked to apply the label "The Man" to any West Ham player, Clyde Best would be a shoe-in (or shoo-in, if you herd sheep as a living).

Saw him his whole career at West Ham. He just was, full stop.

Cheers for those, geoff. Loved the one of him arguing with the ref at Man Utd (some things never change..), the look on Bonds face says it all.

Has anyone told him we're not at Upton Park anymore?

Eddie, he mentioned the London stadium

Never quite the same player without Geoff Hurst alongside him supplying the ball. But a great player on his day that was a handful.
